The Oberheim OB-E is a tribute to the legendary Oberheim 8-Voice, with a special endorsement from Tom Oberheim himself, making it the first software instrument to receive his official approval.

Rather than simply replicating the classic sound, the OB-E introduces a unique musical experience. It brings the expansive, iconic sound of the Synthesizer Expander Module (SEM)-based 8-Voice (also known as EVS) into a new era with several innovations and upgrades.

At its core, the 8-Voice’s design is elegantly simple: Each SEM is equipped with two VCOs that feature Pulse and Sawtooth waveforms, two ADS Envelope Generators, an LFO, and a Multi-Mode Filter. While each SEM is monophonic, the beauty of the 8-Voice lies in the combination of eight SEMs, triggered by a polyphonic keyboard. This creates an extraordinary eight-note polyphonic synthesizer.

The Octaphonic architecture of the OB-E opens up exciting new possibilities for music producers, composers, and sound designers, making it a standout in the digital music world.

A Modern Instrument with Authentic Sound

The Oberheim OB-E brings true-to-life emulation of the original synth, while offering the advantages of software control over the eight SEMs. It supports Mono, Mono Legato, Poly, Unison, and Split keyboard modes. A new VCO3 serves as an audio-rate LFO for each SEM, while velocity, polyphonic after-touch, and MPE control expand its performance capabilities. These features open up a world of creative possibilities for musicians.

Collaboration with Oberheim for a More Authentic Experience

As OB-E neared its release, Tom Oberheim and Marcus Ryle (a former Oberheim engineer) reached out, impressed by the project. Their collaboration allowed us to further improve the OB-E, and with their full support, we launched the v2 update. This version fine-tunes the Detune feature and introduces a new Vintage control, adding more musical imperfection to better mirror the original 8-Voice’s sonic characteristics.

What’s New in OB-E V2 (Available for macOS and Windows)

The OB-E V2 offers a refined, sharp emulation of the Oberheim 8-Voice. With the addition of the Vintage control and an enhanced Detune parameter, it faithfully replicates the nuances of the original instrument.
